The U.S. General Services Administration headquarters in Washington, D.C., built in 1917, recently underwent the first phase of a major rehabilitation. A GSA team leads a tour of the upgrades to the existing 665,000-square-foot structure and the construction of 134,000 square feet of new office space in the historic building’s courtyard. Other improvements include a green roof, new south entrance lobby, and retail space as well as reduced energy use by 50% through sensor-driven window shades, lighting, and smart windows.
