TudorHouse.jpgAs a reaction to the ornateness of Victorian architecture, the revival of the Tudor style drew upon simpler design and materials that harkened back to 16th-century England. Kevin D. Murphy, Andrew W. Mellon Chair in the Humanities, and professor of art history at Vanderbilt University, surveys the Tudor home in America. The style is characterized by steeply pitched roofs, decorative half-timbering, and brick or stucco wall cladding. Following the talk, Murphy signs copies of his book, The Tudor Home (Rizzoli, 2015), which is available in the Museum Shop ($45 Member sale price / $60 Non-member). This program is part of the Museum’s Architecture 101 series, which explores significant moments in architectural history.
