Grupo Gato features Cuban Rumba songs and drumming. Using the Oricha Bata-drum and vocal traditions, an intensive call-and-response interaction abounds in the songs and the drumming.

Gato Gatell immigrated in 2014 to the U.S. as the first Cuban artist to be granted resident status under the INS category “Artist of Extraordinary Ability,” accompanied by his wife, Yudisleidy Valdez, who is a master of Afro-Cuban folkloric dance and is the choreographer and featured soloist of the dances. Gatell has recorded and toured with the biggest names in Afro-Cuban music, and has toured internationally as a member of several all-star groups.
